NDC Men’s Soccer releases 2007 schedule
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Men’s Soccer program released their 2007 schedule today. The Falcons will open their seventh (7th) season of competition on Sep. 1, when they travel to Whiting, Indiana to compete in the Crimson Wave Invitational hosted by Calumet College of St. Joseph. The Falcons will meet the Culver-Stockton (MO) Wildcats in the first day of the four-team tournament’s competition.
Notre Dame’s schedule includes 18 matches between Sep. 1 and Oct. 27. NDC is slated to play five (5) matches at home, nine (9) on the road, and four (4) at a neutral site or tournament location. The Falcons play their home matches at Korb Field in nearby Lyndhurst.
The Falcons open their home schedule on Sep. 9, when they host St. Francis (IL).
The Royal & Gold begin conference play on Sep. 29, when they visit Houghton (NY) Highlanders. NDC will once again compete in the North Division of the American Mideast Conference (AMC). The Falcons are slated for five (5) AMC-North competitions this fall.
AMC schools participate in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). 206 schools from 19 athletic conferences sponsor volleyball in the NAIA. At the end of the regular season, three (3) teams from each AMC division (North and South) will advance to conference and regional play, which begins in late Oct.
“We have an excellent schedule ahead,” said Head Coach Michael “Mac” McBride, who has coached NDC since the program’s inception in 2001. The Falcons’ schedule is highlighted with a cross-town match against Cleveland State on Sep. 19 and a conference tilt on the road at Rio Grande on Oct. 10.
“Rio is without doubt the best team we will face all season, said McBride. “The opportunity to take on one of the very best college teams in the country, in their own backyard, is something we are relishing.”
Nationally, Rio Grande earned a No. 2 final ranking in 2006 with a 19-2-1 (7-1-0 AMC-South) record. The Redmen have won 124 matches over the last six (6) seasons.
In addition to the road matches at CSU and Rio Grande, the NDC Soccer program has its sights set on the AMC. “The most important games we play are our conference matches,” indicated McBride. “All of our conference matches are big.”
The Falcons are 16-2-1 in AMC North play over the last three (3) seasons.
Notre Dame has won 38 games (38-19-4) and three (3) AMC North titles over those three seasons (2004-06). The Falcons were 8-9-1 (4-1-0) a year ago.
