Falcons host Fitness Club
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio –On Nov. 28, the Notre Dame Men’s Basketball team continued with an ongoing commitment to community involvement with a visit to the kids at Open Doors After-School program. Open Doors is an organization designed to give middle school students a safe place to learn and grow, as an option for working parents who can’t get home until later in the evening. It takes place Monday through Friday from 2:30 until 6 pm at Fairmount Presbyterian Church.
Falcon players Zach Jacobson, Karim McFarlane, Kyle Miller, and Dave Ferrando along with the Falcon coaches took over their Wednesday “Fitness Club,” which is a subdivision of the Open Doors program devoted to exercise and physical fitness. The kids were put through a similar workout that the college basketball players would go through during their individual workouts and team practices. Exercises such as jump roping, agility ladders, cone drills, and tennis ball speed training were all part of an hour long workout. Following all their hard work, the middle school kids got a chance to cool down and ask the Notre Dame basketball players about playing a sport in college, and about their team.

Open Doors program director Maggie Bruening considered the day an enormous success. “This was far and away the best fitness club we have ever had. Not only did our kids have a lot of fun and learn a lot of new exercises, but they were also introduced to some great role models. We hope in the future we can bring our kids up to Notre Dame College so they can watch their new friends play.”
“Even though we have a very full basketball schedule, I want our players to understand the importance of serving in your community," said Head Coach Kevin Bille, "particularly when it involves young people like the kids at Open Doors. We will continue a strong commitment to community service in the future.”
Notre Dame College is a co-educational liberal arts institution in South Euclid, Ohio. The Notre Dame Athletics Department sponsors the Falcons' participation in 17 men's and women's sports. The College is affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the American Mideast Conference (AMC), which is the largest NAIA conference in the country.
