Falcons strike for season-high 20 goals in Falcon Invitational

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Lacrosse team earned their 11th win of the season with a 20-2 rout of Tri-State (IN) on Friday night. NDC (11-4) faced the Thunder (3-11) in the opening game of the Falcon Invitational.
NDC opened the game with a barrage of scoring and ran a 14-0 lead headed into halftime. Tri-State finally got on the board with 11 minutes left in the game when Kayla Grieser (Fr/Mentor, OH) scored the first of Tri-State's two goals.
NDC scoring was lead by April Pegler (Jr/Bryn Mawr, PA) who had five goals and two assists. Grieser was responsible for both of the Thunder goals.
Kylie Flett (Sr/Adelaide, Australia) earned the win between the pipes on Senior Night, making five saves. Marissa Lundgren (So/Uniontown, OH) and Rachel Tarasco (Fr/Mentor, OH) each saw time in goal. Lundgren turned away three shots, while Tarasco grabbed one save. Genice Addis (Fr/Cromwell, IN) played all 60 minutes for the Thunder making 13 saves.
In the hustle stats category, Jo Bauswein (Jr/Bainbridge, OH) lead NDC with five groundballs while Nikki Gatlin (Sr/Oakwood, OH) chipped in six draw controls.
NDC will face the winner of John Carroll and Lindenwood (MO) on Saturday and 3:30pm for the tournament championship.
NOTES FROM THE NEST...
.500 CLUB: The win against Tri-State marks Head Coach Candace Taglianetti's 29th win at the helm of the Falcon program. The puts her in black with a 29-28 record over four seasons.
SENIOR MOMENT: The Friday night match-up also marked Senior Night for Notre Dame Lacrosse. NDC honored four seniors who are the first four-year members of the team. Tessa Bluntzer (Sr/Houston, TX), Kylie Flett, Nikki Gatlin, and April Pegler have been with the program since it's 2005 inception. Flett earned the win between the pipes while Bluntzer, Gatlin and Pegler accounted for eight of NDC's 20 goals versus the Thunder in the win.
OPEN INVITATION: NDC is hosting the Falcon Invitational Friday, Apr. 25 and Saturday, Apr. 26. NDC defeated Tri-State and will face the winner of the other first round game between Lindenwood (MO) and John Carroll who play Saturday at 9:00am. The consolation game will feature Tri-State and the loser of game 2. The championship game is slated for 3:30pm.
