SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Women's Lacrosse team defeated St. Vincent (PA) at Korb Field on Saturday, 14-4 to pick up their sixth consecutive win of the 2008 season. NDC (6-3) rattled off nine first half goals against the Bearcats (3-1) in the first half alone.
Notre Dame struck early and often in the opening stanza when Sarah Hutchison (So/Powell, OH) opened the scoring barrage at 29:23. The Falcons received two goals from Jenna Schuerman (Jr/Savage, MN) and Gena McPherson (So/Brampton, ONT) in the first half. Emily Knutson (So/Bloomington, MN), Nikki Gatlin (Sr/Bedford, OH) also dished out a goal apiece in the first half effort.
Megan Sekinger (Sr/Bethel Park, PA) was responsible for St. Vincent's lone first half goal when she scored on a free position opportunity with ten minutes left in the half.
In the second half, St. Vincent was able to utilize the tremendous speed of Liz Louison-Basile (Fr/Hauppauge, NY) who found the back of the net three times but it wasn't enough to even out the lopsided score from the opening half.
Notre Dame scoring was lead by April Pegler (Sr/Bryn Mawr, PA) who had two goals in the second half along with two helpers. Schuerman and McPherson each ended the day with a hat trick. Louison-Basile lead the Bearcats with her three scores.
Kylie Flett (Sr/Adelaide, Australia) played 48 minutes between the pipes for the Falcons, making four saves. Marissa Lundgren (So/Uniontown, OH) and Rachel Tarasco (Fr/Mentor, OH) split the final 12 minutes the game making two stops apiece.
Erica Lisi (Sr/Camillus, NY) made seven saves for the Bearcats while facing a total of 27 Falcon shots.
The Falcons' next game is Tuesday, Apr. 8 when NDC hosts Kenyon at Korb Field. The first draw is scheduled for 7:00pm. Last year, NDC defeated Kenyon 13-10 in Gambier, Ohio.
NOTES FROM THE NEST...
SHE SHOOTS, THREE SCORES!: Last time out, Gena McPherson was shut out for the first time since Mar. 7, 2007. McPherson got back to her scoring ways with three goals against the Bearcats. Notably, McPherson's shot percentage on Saturday was spot on shooting 3-for-3. The Canadian Midfielder has notched at least three goals in seven games this season. In her 24 games as a Falcon, she has tallied 14 performances where she has scored at least three goals.
SIX 'TILL THE CENTURY: With just six goals to go, Molly Merrill is on pace to become the first Falcon lacrosse player to reach 100 career goals. Merrill's goal versus St. Vincent puts her at 94 goals through 39 games. Merrill is ranked first on the all-time points list with 116 (94g, 22a). She is averaging 2.4 goals/gm in 2008.
GROUND CONTROL: The six ground balls picked up by Sam Cerovich (So/San Diego, CA) tie a 2008 team-best originally set by Staci Myrup's (So/Murray, UT) performance against Rollins (Feb. 25). The six ground balls also marks a single-game career best for Cerovich.
