Falcons ground Griffins
First half rally secures tenth win

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Women's Lacrosse team defeated Seton Hill, 13-5, on Tuesday. NDC (10-4) outscored the Griffins (4-11) 6-1 over the first 15 minutes of the game to gain a comfortable lead for the remainder of the match. Despite a Griffin rally in the second half, the Falcons were able to hold on to snag their tenth win of the season.
Gena McPherson (So/Brampton, ONT) lead all scorers with five goals, including four in the opening stanza. Ashley Rutz (Fr/Milton, ONT) finished the day with a hat trick. The overall leading in points on the day was Jenna Schuerman (Jr/Savage, MN) who dished out five assists and notched one score.
Scoring for Seton Hill was lead by Kate Worthington (Fr/Annapolis, MD) who finished with two netfinders.
It was a busy day between the pipes for both goalkeepers as the two teams combined for a total of 54 shots. Kylie Flett (Sr/Adelaide, Australia) notched ten saves for NDC while Julie Woodburn (So/Leonardtown, MD) made 16 saves for the Griffins.
Defensively, Notre Dame was lead by Staci Myrup (So/Murray, UT) who was responsible for five caused turnovers, including four interceptions. Rutz also pitched in with four.
Notre Dame hosts the first-ever Falcon Invitational this weekend (Apr. 25-26) when Tri-State (IN), Lindenwood (MO) and John Carroll visit College Road for the four-team event. NDC hosts John Carroll on Friday, Apr. 25 at 7:00pm.
NOTES FROM THE NEST...
NIFTY FIFTY: McPherson's five goal performance against the Griffins increases her season total to 50 goals, which resets her previous single-season record set last season with 42 scores. McPherson currently leads the team in total points with 55 (50 goals, 5 assists).
WANNA BE A GROUND BALLER: Defender Jo Bauswein (Jr/Bainbridge, OH) made a case for herself in the defensive end on Tuesday. Bauswein not only grabbed two draw controls and forced two turnovers, she also notched three groundballs. The three grounders tie her for first in all-time groundballs for NDC. In three seasons, Bauswein joins Kylie Flett in the top spot with 132 pick-ups.
