Falcons fly past Kenyon
Eight Falcons score in seventh win

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Women's Lacrosse team defeated the Kenyon Ladies, 14-5 at Korb Field Tuesday Night. With the win, NDC (7-3) handed Kenyon (6-1) their first loss of the season and extended their win streak to seven games, the second longest in program history.

The Falcons rattled off seven unanswered goals in the first ten minutes of the first half before the Ladies were able to get on the board with a score from Jenny Fitzgerald (Fr/Cranford, NJ) with 19:26 remaning in the opening

At the break, NDC lead 9-2, with five different Falcons accounting for NDC's nine goals, including four from Gena McPherson (So/Brampton, ONT).

The second half featured another scoring run with three goals over the first 15 minutes of play to build a 12-2 lead heading into the home stretch of the match. Down 14-3 ,Kenyon managed to score two goals late in game. However, the first half Falcon barrage, proved too be more than enough to secure the win.

NDC scoring was lead by McPherson who finished with five goals and Molly Merrill (Jr/Medina, OH) who had one goal and four assists.

Kenyon's Fitzgerald ended the day with two scores and an assist.

Between the pipes,Kylie Flett (Sr/Adelaide, Australia) had one of her best performances of the season with 10 stops. Rachel Tarasco (Fr/Mentor, OH) made one save. Kenyon's Chase Kreuter (So/Riverside, CT) tallied seven saves in the loss.

The Falcons' next game is scheduled for Friday, April 11 when NDC hosts Ohio Wesleyan at Korb Field. The first draw is slated for 7:00pm.

 

NOTES FROM THE NEST...

GOAL, CANADA!: The trio of Gena McPherson, Jenn Morse (So/Brampton, ONT) and Ashley Rutz (Fr/Milton, ONT) combined for nine of NDC's 14 goals on Tuesday night. On the season, the Ontario-native laxers are responsible for nearly half (48 percent) of NDC scoring with 53 goals.

D-UNIT: The Falcon defensive unit has made quite a comeback from the 0-3 start of the 2008 season. In the first three games, NDC was outscored 21-30 i and only averaging 9.3 caused turnovers a game. Now, amidst the seven game win streak, the backfield has allowed the opponent only 6.5 goals per game versus NDC's 11 while causing 10.2 turnovers by the other team. The Falcons have totaled 100 CTs this season to just 53 by the opposing team. Staci Myrup (So/Murray, UT) leads the defensive charge with 19 caused turnovers this season.
