Women's Lacrosse Recap

RecapApril 25 , 2007

Royal and Gold back on track
Two Falcons finish with six points apiece

ALFRED, New York - The Notre Dame Women’s Lacrosse team (11-4) bounced back with a 13-1 win on the road against Alfred University (1-9).  After two consecutive losses, the Falcons took an eight goal lead in the first half and shut out the Saxons in the second half to seal their record eleventh win of the season.

After scoring a combined five goals in the first half of the last two games, NDC exploded to a 9-1 lead heading into halftime. Again, the Falcons found the back of the net first just 45 seconds into the game on a Jenna Schuerman (So/Savage, MN) free position.

The Royal and Gold grabbed nine out of eleven draw controls in the first half and capitalized on ball possession to rattle off eight more goals before Alfred’s Emily Tobin snuck the Saxons’ lone goal past goalkeeper Kylie Flett (Jr/Adelaide, Australia).

Shuerman and Gena McPherson (Fr/Brampton, ON) both finished the day with a team high six points from three goals and three helpers. Molly Merrill (So/Medina, OH) finished with four scores. Sarah Hutchison (Fr/Powell, OH) and Dani Ulry (Fr/Gahanna, OH) each finished with one netfinder apiece. Jenn Morse (Fr/Brampton, ON) rounded out the points with one assist.

Flett had another stellar performance in between the pipes making 13 saves and a season high five caused turnovers from interceptions.

Notre Dame travels one more time this season with their final away game in Gambier, OH on Saturday, April 28 at 1:00pm when they take on Kenyon College.

Notes from the Nest….

Assister Act: Of the Falcons’ seven assists versus the Saxons, Gena McPherson and Jenna Schuerman were responsible for six . All three of Schuerman’s were dished off to each of McPherson’s hat trick worthy performances while all of McPherson’s helpers found Molly Merrill’s stick on three of her goals.

Assister Act II: Schuerman’s three assists marks the thirteenth consecutive game with at least one assist. The last time the sophomore midfielder didn’t pass one off was on March 7 in their 12-3 loss against Ursinus College. Schuerman currently leads the team with a program record 14 assists.

Sharp Shooters: The Falcons shot percentage against the Saxons was .619 which marks another season high in their record 11th win. Before the game, the Falcons tallied a .377 shot average with the previous game high of .528 against Oberlin College in their 19-7 back on March 20.
