Falcons roll out fourth in a row
Three Falcons finish the day with six points
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - The Notre Dame Falcons rattled off their fourth consecutive victory as they defeating Oberlin College 19-7 at Korb Field on Tuesday night. The Falcons’ victory now brings their record to four wins and two losses in their 2007 campaign.
Eight different Falcons found the back of the net in the win, which now brings the three-year series between the Yeowomen and NDC to an even two wins and two losses, apiece. Seven players had multiple-goal performances with three players tallying six points on the day. Gena McPherson (Fr/Brampton, ON) leading the way with four goals and two assists. Molly Merrill (So/Medina, OH) finished the day with a hat trick and three helpers while Jenna Schuerman (So/Savage, MN) had two goals and four assists.
NDC got on the board two minutes into the game with a goal from Merrill off a feed from Sam Cerovich (Fr/San Diego, CA). The Falcons held the Yeowomen scoreless until 14:56 left in the first half but by the time Oberlin’s Emma Edmondson got the ball past keeper Kylie Flett (Jr/Adelaide, AUS), the Royal and Gold was already up by four goals and weren’t giving up the lead anytime soon.
Kylie Flett made the start in goal and made twelve saves against the Yeowomen in 50 minutes. Marissa Lundgren also got time in between the pipes.
Rounding out the scoring were Stacey Gowe (Fr/Medina, OH) with three goals, Sarah Hutchison (Fr/Powell, OH), Nikki Gatlin (Jr/Oakwood, OH) and Dani Ulry (Fr/Gahanna, OH) had two each, while Cerovich finished the game with one goal.
On Friday, Mar. 23, the Falcons host the Denison Big Red at 7:00pm. Last season, NDC took the Big Red all the way to sudden-death double-overtime before dropping a 14-13 heartbreaker.
Notes from the Nest…
Helping Hands: The Falcons have dished out 40 helpers on the season which sets a new program assist record. Last season, NDC totaled 27 assists, while in the first season 16 were handed out. In the victory over Oberlin, the Falcons totaled 11 assists on 19 goals.
“Schuer” Thing: As a Falcon, Jenna Schuerman has scored at least one point in 20 consecutive games. This season alone she’s had multiple point performances in all but one game. In six games, Schuerman has tallied 11 goals and a team-high 11 assists.
D-Unit: In the last three outings, the swarming NDC defense has averaged 4.0 goals against per game…Holly Joseph (So/Lapeer, MI) was a major part of that force as she only allowed Oberlin’s 2006 leading scorer to one goal…Jo Bauswein (So/Chagrin Falls, OH) and Staci Myrup (Fr/Murray, UT) were responsible for eight of the team’s 17 caused turnovers against the Yeowomen
