Spring swings cut short at Tiffin Invite
McCaig cards new NDC record
FREMONT, Ohio - Notre Dame opened their 2007 season Friday by playing in the weather-shortened Tiffin Spring Invitational. The event which included a seven-team field was limited to one round by a blast of winter weather.
The Falcons finished sixth in the tournament with a team score of 316. Individually, David McCaig (Jr/Stewarton, Scotland) broke his own NDC single-round scoring record by firing a 73 over the par-70, 6,301 yards of the Sycamore Hills Golf Club.
McCaig finished tied for 5th in the event going out in 36 and posting a 37 on the inward nine. His carded 73 tops his own 75 earned at Fowlers Mill GC in the 2005 John Carroll University Invitational.
Other NDC scorers included Kyle Hoover (So/Florence, KY), Jared Allman (Fr/Piketon, OH), and Tony Pinzone (Fr/Parma, OH). Hoover's round of 78 included a fine 36 on the back nine. He finished tied for 20th in the 54-man field.
The tournament was won by the home Tiffin Dragons, who posted a team score of 294 to edge Roberts Wesleyan (NY) by two strokes.
Notre Dame is scheduled to travel to Uniontown, Ohio Monday and Tuesday for the Walsh Invitational, but the status of that event is up in the air due to inclement weather.
