Run NDC
Falcons batter Rams in 100-point barrage
| Box |

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Notre Dame trounced Temple Baptist Tuesday, 102-33, to run their record to 2-0 on the young season.  The Falcons’ point total against the Runnin’ Rams, on the heels of their 93-point outburst in game one, ties an NDC record for points scored in the opening two games of a season.

Notre Dame (2-0) jumped out to a 31-11 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game.  NDC displayed a well-balanced attack in taking apart the Runnin’ Rams early.  NDC created turnovers and multiple fast-break opportunities throughout the opening stanza.  Ten Falcons found the scoring column in the opening half, with freshman center Yvette Hunter (Jamestown, NY) leading the way with 12 points.

An overmatched Temple (0-4) team attempted to slow the Falcons’ attack with a deliberate offensive pace.  But NDC was able to convert in their transition game time and time again, shooting 61.0 percent in the first half.  After 20 minutes, NDC held a 57-16 advantage.

The second half was more of the same, as the Blue & Gold built their lead to 60 points by the 10-minute mark.  Diana DePane (Fr/Jamestown, NY) and Ashley Carney (Jr/Solon, OH) led the NDC charge in the second half.  DePane finished the game with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting.  Carney also connected for 15 points in the game.

Hunter finished with 14 points.  Sophomore guard Amanda Brown (Vienna, VA) missed a triple-double by one assist; she stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists.

Overall,  12 NDC players scored, out of the 14 that Head Coach Dick Deasy was able to play in preparation for the Falcons’ next two games, both of which will be played in an upcoming weekend tournament (Nov. 17-18).

Notre Dame shot 60.8 percent for the game, to Temple’s 25.0.  Lee Cleveland and Ansley Davenport led the Rams with 12 points each.

Notre Dame’s 195 points through their first two games of the season ties a program best; NDC also scored 195 in the first two games of the 2002-03 season.

The Falcons travel to Wooster over the weekend to compete in the Nan Nichols Tournament, hosted by the College of Wooster. NDC will play SUNY-Fredonia (NY) on Saturday, in the first round of the tournament. The first tip Saturday is scheduled for 1:00pm.

Notes from the Nest...

Century mark:  Notre Dame’s 102-point outburst marked the first time they have scored 100 points in a game since Jan. 29, 2005, when NDC scored 104 points against Point Park (PA).  The Falcons scored 76.1 points per game last season to lead the American Mideast Conference North Division.

Home improvement:  With Tuesday’s win, NDC’s starts the season 2-0 on their home court at Murphy Gymnasium. That’s nothing new for the NDC Women’s program of recent vintage. The Falcons sported a 10-5 home record (.667 win percentage) a year ago. Over their last 45 contests on College Road, Notre Dame is 39-6 (.867).
