SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Notre Dame earned their seventh straight victory Friday, with a 94-64 home court win over Carlow University (PA). With the Falcons win over the Celtics, NDC pulls into a tie for first place in the North Division of the American Mideast Conference (AMC).
The Falcons got off to a slow start with only an 8-6 lead four minutes into the opening half before a three-pointer by Christina Costa (Sr/Pittsburgh, PA) to put the Celtics up 9-8 at the 15:40 mark. NDC and Carlow then traded baskets with the Falcons up by no more than six points for the first 14 minutes of the game.
The Falcons then went on a seven-point run to open a 44-31 lead by halftime. Notre Dame (16-3, 6-0) shot 55.9 percent (19-for-34) in the first frame. Three Falcons, led by freshman center Yvette Hunter’s (Jamestown, NY) 14 points, posted double digits in the first, as Head Coach Dick Deasy liberally substituted to keep his squad fresh in what was the team’s fifth game in 10 days.
The Blue & Golf came out strong in the second half to go up 56-43 at the 15:44 mark. Up 70-51 with 10:00 left, the Falcons hit stride with key baskets coming from Jamie Henry (Jr/Garfield Heights, OH) and Molly Baker (Jr/Avon Lake, OH). Henry finished with 12 points and nine boards. Baker scored 17.
NDC outscored Carlow (3-14, 1-5), 50-25, in the second frame. The Celtics shot just 22.2 percent (8-for-36) over the final twenty. Jacqueline Muir (Sr/Bolivar, PA) scored 18 to pace the Celtics.
The Falcons, on the other hand, shot the ball well all night. Notre Dame connected on 55.1 percent (38-for-60) of their shots for the game.
The win for NDC extended their win streak to seven games, their longest such streak since they won seven in a row from Dec. 18, 2005 to Jan. 14, 2006.
Friday’s tilt kicked off a string of conference games for NDC. Notre Dame will play nine consecutive AMC-North games to finish out the regular season. Friday’s game against Carlow was also the Falcons’ last at home game until Feb. 5.
NDC will travel up the road to Ursuline College in their next game Tuesday, Jan. 29 in a rematch of last Monday’s 87-81 victory over the Arrows. First tip at Ursuline is slated for 7:00pm.
