Falcon righty named AMC Pitcher of the Week
May 6: Notre Dame hurler Lafe Burnette (So/Romulus, MI) was named the American Mideast Conference's (AMC) Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 28, the conference announced Tuesday. Burnette tossed nine innings, yielding just one unearned run during the week. The Michigan native picked up two wins - one in a complete-game start, the other in relief - over Walsh University. Burnette struck out nine batters in his nine innings of work and lowered his season ERA to 3.16.
The Falcon righthander went 5-1 in 2008, making five starts and six relief appearances. Burnette pitched 37 innings on the year, striking out 28 while walking just eight.

Late kick
May 4: Notre Dame closed out their 2008 campaign Sunday with a win over Walsh University in a make-up of Friday night's nightcap game. NDC turned back Walsh, 12-8, in a contest that featured a late run by Notre Dame. The victory for the Falcons ends their season at 22-24 overall and 10-16 in the American Mideast Conference.
The first four men in Head Coach Craig Moro's batting order Sunday went a combined 9-for-16 with four walks and eigh runs scored. Right fielder Eric Pelot (Jr/Lakewood, OH) led the way, going 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.

Can't hit in Canton
May 3: Four Malone College hurlers combined on a seven-inning no-hitter against Notre Dame in Canton on Saturday. The Falcons were set down in order four times, reached base just four times (three walks, one hit by pitch), and struck eight times in a 10-0 shellacking.
Malone (36-11, 21-5) out-hit the Falcons, 14-0. The Pioneers won the game via the 10-run rule by scoring a pair of runs in the home half of the seventh.
With the loss, NDC falls to 21-24. The Falcons are slated to close out their season on Sunday, with a home contest against Walsh.
