XENIA, Ohio - Notre Dame split a pair of games with Concordia University (MI) Thursday. The Falcons downed the Cardinals, 13-10 in the opener and dropped the nightcap, 4-3 in five innings. The games were played in Xenia, Ohio, as both teams fled for southern Ohio to get in games after recent postponements.
Senior left fielder Jack Sito (Elyria, OH) reached base four times in the twin bill. The right handed slugger collected three RBIs and swatted his second home run of the season in game one.
Notre Dame spotted Concordia a seven-run lead in game one. The NDC offense peppered Athletes in Action Stadium with 15 hits in a comeback effort that saw the Falcons come all the way back and then eventually win after scoring in each of the game's final four innings. Five Falcon batters collected multi-hit games, including junior shortstop Nate Campbell (Lakewood, OH), who banged out a double and a pair of singles.
Notre Dame reached base 21 times in the game (15 hits, four walks, one hit by pitch, one reached on error), and Blue & Gold batsmen went 8-for-16 with runners in scoring position.
In the nightcap, NDC blew an opportunity to sweep the Cardinals in a truncated five-inning affair - the doubleheader on the neutral field was played under a time limit. The Falcons, with solo runs in the second, third, and fourth innings, held a 3-2 lead heading into the fifth and final innings. The Cardinals ripped a home run and then a triple to lead off the fifth against sophomore Joe Frey (Erie, PA), who had gotten NDC out of a jam in the fourth. The triple scored three batters later on a sacrfice fly off of Eric Pelot (Jr/Lakewood, OH).
