Wrestling Falcons Drop Pair in Ashland
Ashland, OH – The Wrestling Falcons of Notre Dame College participated in their first dual meet Saturday, December 16. Up against two strong and established programs, the Falcons dropped their first dual decisions of the season at the W-G Masonry Duals. NDC was bested by Ashland University, 32-10 and by Heidelberg College 29-9. Notre Dame (2-2) won three (3) bouts in each match.
Both matches started at 125, and NDC went toe-to-toe with both opponents through the early bouts at lower weight classes. The Falcons trailed Ashland (3-0) by a score of 9-7 after four (4) bouts and trailed Heidelberg (4-1) by a score of 13-9 through six (6) bouts.
The Falcons were led by Nate Spencer (Fr/Newbury, OH), who was 1-0 on the day, with a major decision (10-2) against AU's Mick Nicola at 149. Spencer ran his overall record to 8-6 with the win and is now 2-0 in dual competiton.
Also picking up wins Saturday were Anthony Caruso (Fr/Beachwood, OH) at 133, Brett Freeman (Fr/Burton, OH) at 141, Mike Santone (So/Omaha, NE) at 149, Chris Tabor (Fr/Mentor, OH) at 165, and Chris Tripp (So/Cleveland, OH) at 174. Tripp's record for the season is now a perfect 9-0.
The NDC grapplers have a two-week break in their schedule and will next hit the mats on January 6 at Muskingum College in New Concord, OH.
