Coaching Principles

CPD Faculty
This course provides coaches with an overview of the following areas: coaching philosophy, sport psychology, sport pedagogy, sport physiology, and sport management. This course stresses a philosophy of athletes first, winning second. The offering prepares prospective coaches for a successful, fulfilling, and hassle-free experience coaching young people. Participants will emerge with a practical, working knowledge of:

  • Developing a coaching philosophy
  • Understanding the basics of sport psychology for young children and teens
  • Understanding the need for sport conditioning and fitness
  • Developing a management style for the sport they coach or the facility they control

Process for obtaining college credit:

  • Participants purchase the ASEP Coaching Principles online course through the Notre Dame College portal page on the ASEP Web site. Visit - http://www.asep.com/asep_content/org/NDC.cfm
  • From the table at the bottom of the page, click on “Online Course with Print Materials” next to the Coaching Principles listing to begin the purchasing process using a credit or debit card.
  • When the student is ready to register for college credit
       - Email kjensen@ndc.edu to register for college credit.
      - Upon completion of the on-line course, the student will meet with an
         assignedfaculty to complete the graduate assignment.

Introduction to Athletic Administration

This course is the NIAAA/OIAAA Leadership Training course (502). The course takes the basic approach to the fundamentals and methods of athletic administration. It alerts and educates athletic administrators regarding potential problems and possible solutions in areas of budgeting, transportation, scheduling, parent/student/ coach conflicts. Covered briefly are athletic/activity program philosophy, department organizational charts, activity procedures/checklists, public relations, coaching applications/assessments, and emergency plans. A comprehensive manual provides the core content of the course.

Sports First Aid & CPR

CPD Faculty
This American Sports Education Program course will provide the basic knowledge of sports injuries to prepare for medical emergencies, to recognize minor and serious sports injuries, and to administer appropriate sports first aid until professional medical help arrives. The intent of this course is to reduce the number of avoidable injuries and to respond to life-threatening injuries. This offering includes a four-hour classroom CPR session. Meets the Ohio High School Athletic Association requirement for Pupil Personnel certification
