My majors are management information systems (MIS) and finance. MIS encompasses business management plus the managing of computer database systems. Finance is a brand new major to Notre Dame College. Finance is comprised of money management and commercial banking. I chose MIS because I have a passion for computers and technology. I also enjoy assisting people with the use and repair of computers. I chose finance because I want to grow my money management skills and have the knowledge to interpret trends and opportunity in the stock market.

I’ve had many great professors at Notre Dame, but economics professor John Buchko has been a big influence on the way I think – he encourages me to think on a larger scale. He does not sugar coat anything that he says. He has taught me that in our current economy you need to buckle down and take full advantage of your education. If not, life will be much more challenging down the road.

Notre Dame College is a very special place. When I think of NDC, I think of a tight-knit, family-like community. I think of my incredible professors and I think of a place that is my second home. I have made friends for life at NDC and had the opportunity to meet people that I never thought I would have to opportunity to meet. I am proud to say I am a student and a future graduate of Notre Dame College.

I am a senior middle-childhood education major at Notre Dame College. I am also a Lead Student Ambassador and majorette in the school's marching band.

At Notre Dame and in my major class work, I have learned key skills that will provide me with the instruction and knowledge to successfully run my own classroom. I am very eager to start this journey one year from now, and know I will look back and thank Notre Dame College for all of the preparation and guidance. I chose to be an education major because I love interacting with students. I also love that creativity is a big part of being a teacher.

The professor who has influenced me the most would have to be Dr. Bill Oliverio. In his class, I learned so much about the profession from the stories and real-life experiences he shares. It was awesome to hear (and learn) what truly happens during a normal school day. I like Notre Dame because of the small community that the school makes within the huge city of Cleveland. It is a community within a community. Each day you see familiar faces and can easily find your niche here.

I am a sophomore at Notre Dame College majoring in criminal justice. I chose Notre Dame because it’s a smaller school. I graduated from high school with only 100 classmates, and I enjoy the intimate feeling that comes from a smaller campus and smaller class sizes. Sometimes it takes me time to learn and at Notre Dame, I know that my professors will always take the time to help me. That’s an opportunity that comes from being at a small school rather than a larger one. I also chose Notre Dame because of the women’s softball team and the opportunity to play at a Division II level. Being a part of the team has given me the opportunity to improve my skills at a higher level of competition.

I would say the people who have influenced me the most at Notre Dame are my coaches. I cannot pick any specific one because they have all helped me in different ways, whether physically, personally or mentally. Being on a team really helps because your teammates become like another family to you and you know you’ll never be alone. Also, I am very social so I just talk to everyone and make sure I make an effort to get to know people I may not otherwise meet. Notre Dame is a great place and I am so happy I chose this college.

I am a senior marketing major at Notre Dame College. I also participate in football. I like my major because of the constant new information that I learn each day. Marketing fits me the best because I could sell water to a fish.

A professor who has influenced me in my years here at Notre Dame is Dr. Palumbo. He has shown me the ins and outs of the marketing and business worlds. His passion for teaching marketing and business students makes me more determined to own my own business and take over the world. I love Notre Dame College because of the generous people and the way the all professors take an interest in their students.

When I came to Notre Dame College, I decided that I wanted to major in communication. I am a firm believer in the power of the written word. Due to this, I wanted to see exactly how far I could go with my writing, but in order to do that I had to learn more about it. I had always seen my writing as creative, but Dr. Amy Kesegich really opened my eyes to new ways in which I could express my creativity. She explained that there really is no wrong way to get your thoughts onto the paper. Notre Dame has been a wonderful place for me over the last couple of years. I love the small class sizes and the welcoming atmosphere of the campus.

I am a senior marketing major at Notre Dame College. I am also a member of the football team.

To be a marketing major is to be a people person. I feel that my major is a perfect fit for my personality. I have a way with words that entices others to understand me on a more personal level. This will help benefit not only my career and future employer, but, most importantly, the satisfaction of my customers and clients.

The professor that I feel has influenced me the most is William L. Leamon. He has helped me to understand my strengths and weaknesses and the process to use both of them to my advantage. He has always listened carefully to my questions and given me advice and valuable feedback.

I like Notre Dame College because of the people here – they become a second family. I met my best friends here, and they have helped me realize the true and better meanings in life.

My journey at Notre Dame College has been very enriching one, and what I have learned here will be useful not only in my major, but in my life.

Many professors have influenced me in my college experience at Notre Dame. Dr. Bill Neater and Sr. Mary Karita Ivancic have both given me many musical opportunities that have made me a better musician and allowed me to develop into a dedicated and passionate leader. Roz Scheer-McLeod has been an integral part of my years at Notre Dame. She goes above and beyond the role of professor and has given me skills for a fulfilling and meaningful life, much like many of the professors at Notre Dame.

I chose to study psychology, specifically focusing on clinical psychology because I have a desire to help others and a strong interest in learning about mental processes and behavior. I chose Notre Dame College because the psychology department strives for academic excellence, focuses on ambiguity, and the psychology professors genuinely care about their students both personally and professionally.

I am an international student from Germany and I am majoring in accounting. I would describe accounting as the backbone and universal language of every business around the world. In order to make predictions about the financial future of a business you will have to understand the past. In accounting you learn to analyze financial statements and how financials are reported both domestically and internationally. I am learning how businesses value their assets and liabilities, where money is going and coming from, what tax influences certain financial decisions have and how to merge financial statements when businesses are collaborating.

I was able to take my first accounting principles class during freshmen year, which gave me the opportunity to realize that the accounting major is more than just number crunching. Obviously, numbers are very important to accountants but you also have to know how to analyze and interpret them in order for everything to make sense. I am a very rational thinker so something always needs to make sense for me. In accounting, due to the use of the double entry system, your debits always have to equal your credits, and your assets always balance your liabilities and stockholders’ equity. Makes sense, right? I think once you understand that there is so much variety behind the field of accounting, you realize it’s actually a lot of fun to “crunch numbers!” The professor who showed me the fun in accounting was Natalie Strouse. Every problem we did was like a scavenger hunt! You find the right pieces, match them up the right way, and as a result you have perfectly balancing financial statements.

I definitely think accounting is very exciting! Anyone who likes a fast-paced business environment, is detail-oriented, but also likes consistency and a little bit of number crunching should definitely consider accounting as their major. At Notre Dame, we have highly qualified business professors who incorporate real-life problems in the classroom, which makes learning fun and interesting.
