Your freshman year is a time of a lot of changes and new beginnings. As you start your academic career, it is useful to hear advice from those who came before you.
Right now, answer the question “What do you want to accomplish in your first year of college (academically, socially, health related, family relations, spiritually)?” Now write down your goals, and put them where you will see them daily! Writing down your goals will help you reach them!
Knowing how to be organized is very important, and an important lifetime skill.
Know that you will have to work to have good grades.
Get enough sleep.
Always go to class or you will risk failing.
Learn where the computer labs are and how to use the programs that you need.
Install anti-virus software on your personal computer.
Talk with professors, advisors, and other students about classes that you think you might want to take in the future.
Avoid the "Freshman fifteen” (the fifteen pounds of fat which accumulates over the course of a freshman's first year away from home) by exercising, avoiding fast food and junk food, controlling portion sizes, eating balanced meals (don’t skip breakfast!), and trying not to eat while you study.
Being a freshman can be a new start for you, but always remember to be yourself.
