A Job Well Done

Excitement and work had us scampering throughout the city of Lake Worth today, as we faced new challenges and tasks.

Not only did we scale roof tops and collect trash, we were also able to finish setting up the walls to the new abode we are constructing. This allowed us to start putting up plywood. We were able to develop and strengthen our arm muscles as much of the day consisted of hammering nails through inches of wood and concrete.

Although the relentless sun beat down on us, we worked through the grueling conditions. Covered in dirt and dust, and with blisters starting to grow on our calloused hands, we were successful in putting in a day’s worth of work. When we left for the day we knew we had put in a large amount of hard work. “Job well done!” to the group.

After all of the exhausting work we put in, we were finally able to go to the beach! While several of us relaxed and caught up on reading, others slept, and some went onto the pier. One of us was turned into a mermaid when buried under the sand. We enjoyed some delicious pizza and later watched the red moon rise over the sea!

We then returned to the YMCA, where we showered and collapsed into our sleeping bags with smiles on our faces, ready for another day of building a house, making friends and having fun.

Equipped with hard hats and shades, we get the job done despite the relentless sun.

On the (roof) top of the world: It's a great feeling to make a difference!
