During her senior year of high school, Carmella’s birthday gift from her grandmother was an application to Notre Dame College and a check to cover the application fee. Though it was not a typical gift by any means, she did not miss the thought behind it.
“My grandmother also went to Notre Dame. She had wanted one of her grandchildren to attend the College. Since I was the last grandchild, I filled out the application just to see if I had a chance to go here.”
During the admissions process Carmella experienced the personal touch that makes the Notre Dame College experience so unique. Her admissions counselor worked with her to answer any questions she and her family had throughout the year.
When Carmella finally made the choice to attend Notre Dame, she could not sign her confirmation letter in person. Instead, her admissions counselor drove out to the McDonald’s restaurant where she worked and personally delivered a sweatshirt that the College traditionally gives to its new students. “I think my coworkers were a little surprised,” she recalls.
Today, Carmella is studying psychology at Notre Dame and intends to pursue a career in social work. As a student she understands why her grandmother encouraged her to attend the College and is glad to add a chapter to her family’s legacy at Notre Dame. |
