Council on World Affairs Chief to Speak at
Notre Dame College

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio—24 October 2005 –Ambassador Wat Cluverius, president and CEO of the Cleveland Council on World Affairs, will speak at Notre Dame College, Tuesday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m. in the College’s Little Theater. The title of his talk is “The Middle East: Where Do We Stand?”

During his 40 years of service as a specialist on Middle Eastern affairs, Ambassador Cluverius has lived, worked, and traveled throughout the region. He served as Senior Advisor on Middle East peace in the second Reagan Administration, as Ambassador to Bahrain in the Ford and Carter Administrations, and as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs in the first Reagan Administration. Ambassador Cluverius served as Consul General in Jerusalem, as a member of all American negotiating delegations following the Camp David Accords from 1978 to 1983, and as office director in Washington for American relations with the Arabian Peninsula states as well as for Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Israel. Before coming to Cleveland, where he serves with the Cleveland Council on World Affairs, Ambassador Cluverius headed the 11 nation peacekeeping force in Sinai, which oversees the security provisions of the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty.
