Notre Dame College
Opens Doors to Student Victims of Katrina
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio—2 September 2005 – Notre Dame College (NDC) will accept any Northern Ohio student who is impacted by the flooding due to hurricane Katrina. Northern Ohio residents who are enrolled in colleges and universities in the New Orleans area may attend Notre Dame College free of charge for one semester.
As an expression of its historic mission to serve the underserved, NDC is extending its hospitality to local students who have been displaced from their studies in New Orleans. The college will be able to accommodate 5 – 8 resident students and any commuter students. As classes have already begun, the students should arrive on the South Euclid campus by Friday, September 9. Room and board will also be provided by the college.
According to college President Andrew Roth, “We hope all Ohio students are out of harms way. We want to alleviate some of the hardship they are suffering by helping them continue to attain their academic goals while their institutions are re-building. They have suffered a tremendous catastrophe and we want to help in the way we know best. We look forward to welcoming them to our college community. This is the right thing to do.”
Interested families with students currently enrolled in the closed schools may contact Dean of Admissions David Armstrong at 216.373.5355 or darmstrong@ndc.edu.
