Notre Dame College and South Euclid Stage Safety Drill
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio—6 August 2007--Notre Dame College announced that it will conduct a critical incident response drill on its campus, with the City of South Euclid Safety Forces, on Wednesday, August 8. This type of exercise is designed to test emergency preparedness through a realistic simulation of an act of violence. The drill takes place 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.
South Euclid police and fire departments are participating, along with University Heights police and the local SWAT team, composed of specially trained officers from both cities.
According to Notre Dame College Safety Director Michael Dugan, “Emergencies mandate that we do everything possible to provide essential services to those who depend on us in times of tragedy. Simulations are but one way we can assure our ability to respond quickly and appropriately.”
The objectives of the drill are:
-
To practice and evaluate new critical incident plans which have recently been implemented.
-
To improve coordination of the South Euclid Safety Forces, the regional S.W.A.T. Team, and Notre Dame College.
-
To insure the highest quality response to the informational needs of the Notre Dame College Community, the media and the greater community.
The August 8 drill is the first of several planned exercises designed to strengthen our collective response to a range of both man-made and natural critical incidents. Such critical incidents include tornados, hazardous materials spills, power failures, snow storms and explosions.
