Notre Dame College Appoints New Safety Director

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio—5 March 2007—Notre Dame College announced the appointment of its new director of safety and security, Michael T. Dugan. Dugan served with the Cleveland Police Department for 28 years, from which he retired with the rank of captain, and as Chief of Police in Independence for nine years.

Dr. Andrew Roth, president of Notre Dame College, welcomed Dugan to Notre Dame College and said, “We look forward to Chief Dugan’s leadership and development of our Safety and Security Department. His background in community policing programs is a good fit with our recently-adopted hybrid safety model and provides a strong asset for Notre Dame College’s safety program.”

A leader in his profession, Dugan has served as president of the Metropolitan Crime Clinic and the Cuyahoga County Chiefs of Police Association, and chaired the Education Committee of the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police, developing executive training and education programs. He developed numerous community policing initiatives and chaired the 19-community Southwest Enforcement Regional S.W.A.T. team.

Dugan is a graduate of the University of Akron and the F.B.I. National Academy. He is on the faculty of Cuyahoga Community College and Northcoast Polytechnical Institute.

Chief Dugan is the father of an adult son, Jack, and resides in Independence with his wife, Nancy.
