Notre Dame College to Host Interfaith Discussions

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio—2 October 2006— Notre Dame College announced a series of interfaith community meetings sponsored by its Tolerance Resource Center, the American Jewish Committee, and the Cleveland Catholic Diocese-Interfaith Commission. Three Faiths, One God: Judaism, Christianity, Islam will be held at Notre Dame College beginning this fall.

The focus of the meetings is to allow for thoughtful comparison of the similarities and differences in religious beliefs and practices among Islam, Christianity and Judaism.

Using a DVD of the same title, the meetings will focus on how people in Abrahamic faith communities deal with historical conflicts, yet remain dedicated to facilitating understanding and respect. This media presentation captures a broad range of voices and ideas of ordinary people and respected scholars in the interfaith field. This will aid those participating from the three religions to explore each others beliefs in an atmosphere of respect and learning.

Sr. Mary Louise Trivison, Professor Emerita of Spanish and Theology and one of the coordinators of the event, believes that Three Faiths is an important step in building interfaith cooperation in the Greater Cleveland community. “This event is broadening our base of participants in interfaith discussions. We have done events for Catholic and Jewish groups and have a good relationship between the American Jewish Committee and the Cleveland Catholic Diocese. Now we are reaching out to the Muslim community as well.”

There will be two series of meetings, all taking place 7:30-9:00 p.m. The fall semester sessions will be on November 15, November 29 and December 13. Dates for the spring semester are February 28, March 14 and March 28. Notre Dame College is located at 4545 College Road in South Euclid.

The discussions are free and open to the public. To register, call Fr. Joseph Hilinski at 216.696.6525 ext. 5110.
