Notre Dame College Receives Professional Development Grant
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio—21 February 2006 -- Notre Dame College’s Center for Professional Development has been awarded a $45,800 grant by the Ohio Department of Education to provide training for special education intervention specialists to become Highly Qualified Teachers. Programs focusing on the areas of English/Language Arts, Math, History, and Civics/Government will be offered on the Notre Dame campus in South Euclid beginning this spring and through the summer.
The requirement of special education intervention specialists to become Highly Qualified Teachers is mandated by the No Child Left Behind Act.
Class size is limited and registration is on a first come basis. Classes not filled by special education intervention specialist are open to other educators and can be taken for college credit. Courses will be offered either as weekend classes this spring or as a week long course this summer to enable special education intervention specialists to meet the requirement by fall.
The grant covers all professional development tuition costs and materials fee for the intervention specialist. Graduate credit (three semester hours) is available at additional cost for those interested.
“We are excited to provide these quality professional development programs to meet the needs of Ohio educators,” said John Petrunak, director, Center for Professional Development. For more information contact Petrunak at 216-373-5286 or jpetrunak@ndc.edu. Information is also available at:
