Notre Dame College Students Raise Walls
During Spring Break with Habitat for Humanity

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio—28 February 2007--Notre Dame College (NDC) students will join more than 11,500 fellow spring breakers from across the country to participate in Habitat for Humanity’s “Collegiate Challenge.”

During the week of March 3rd Notre Dame College students will help build simple, decent and affordable homes with families in need. Eighteen NDC students will travel to Birmingham, Alabama to work with the local Habitat affiliate in that city. Notre Dame College students have a long history of service to the local community and beyond. This year the College celebrates its fifth anniversary of working with Habitat for Humanity’s “Collegiate Challenge Program.” The students will donate their spring break to help others and do their part to put an end to substandard housing.

According to Brian Emerson, director of Campus Ministry, “The Habitat for Humanity program gives our students the opportunity to serve people in need in a very significant way. It has made a huge impression on the 60 students who have participated over the past five years.” Last year the students helped upgrade housing in Yonkers, New York.

“In 2006 students made such a difference by giving one week of their time to help people in need of housing,” said Alynn Woodson, Collegiate Challenge manager for Habitat for Humanity International. This year, students have signed up with Collegiate Challenge to help build homes in 235 locations. The program offers high school and college-age students year-round opportunities to use their vacations to serve a community by volunteering to build homes.
