Presents David Auburn’s “Proof”
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio—10 November 2009—Notre Dame College’s Theatre Department and Masquers will present four performances of David Auburn’s Tony Award-winning play “Proof” in the College’s Performing Arts Center from Nov. 19 to 22. The play is directed by Jacqi Loewy, assistant professor of communication and theatre at Notre Dame, and features a guest performance by well-known professional artist Robert Hawkes. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for the general public.
“Proof” concerns Catherine, the daughter of Robert, a recently deceased mathematical genius and professor at the University of Chicago, and her struggle with genius vs. mental illness. The title refers to a mathematical proof found by the professor's graduate assistant. The plot revolves around his relationship with Catherine, the challenge of verifying the proof and the relationship between Catherine and her disapproving older sister Claire. The play contains adult language and subject matter, and is not appropriate for children.
The first three shows begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, Friday, Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov. 21. The final performance on Sunday, Nov. 22 starts at 3:00 p.m. Notre Dame College is located at 4545 College Road in South Euclid. For further information contact Jacqi Loewy at 216.373.5189.
