NOTRE  DAME COLLEGE’S ART DEPARTMENT PRESENTS:
Inspiration by Dominic Mercadante

SOUTH EUCLID, OHIO—15 March 2009 - Notre Dame College’s Department of Art presents new works by the Cleveland artist Dominic Mercadante.  The exhibit of 10 mono-prints will open on April 2, 2009 with a reception from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Ground Floor Corridor of the Administration Building.  The exhibit will be open during regular college hours from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily.  A gallery talk will also be presented on April 17th from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.  All events are free and open to the public.

The artist works with painting and printmaking techniques employing oil paint and acrylic paint on Plexiglas.  Dominic is currently a senior at Notre Dame College and will graduate this May with a major in both graphic design and studio art. 

Dominic’s work incorporates familiar Cleveland landscapes and cityscapes in front of vibrant and surreal sunsets.  He uses the traditional mono-printing technique to accomplish colorful gradations of inspirational sunsets. A silhouette of a Cleveland landscape is painted directly on the glass that is used to frame the piece. The glass is separated from the background print by a narrow space achieving a sense of depth and dimension in each framed work. The cityscapes include skylines and buildings such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the landscapes include scenery from the metro parks and views from Lake Erie. All works are for sales.
