Notre Dame College Names Tolerance Resource Center Director

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio—21 April 2009—Notre Dame College (NDC) has announced the appointment of Michael Bloom as the director of its Tolerance Resource Center (TRC) effective May 1. Dr. Bloom currently serves as Assistant Professor of Communication at NDC, teaching public relations, mass communication, speech and writing courses. He will continue to work as full-time professor in addition to his position as the director of the TRC.

Bloom previously worked as a fundraising, organizational and marketing/public relations consultant for The University of Akron, Cleveland State University, as well as Mercer University and the City of Macon, Ga. He earned his Ph.D. and M.A. in Communication from McGill University in Montreal, Canada and his B.A. in Mass Communication from Cleveland State University.

Hailing from Montreal, Bloom is a dual citizen of Canada and the U.S. He is fluent in Hebrew, and has spent a good deal of time in Israel. He serves on the board of the American Heart Association’s Cleveland Metro Division and has worked as an adjunct associate professor at Siegal College of Judaic Studies in Cleveland, where he taught courses in education, history and modern thought.

The Tolerance Resource Center, located in the College’s Clara Fritzsche Library, provides students, faculty, scholars, and members of the greater community with materials for studying and teaching issues of racial, cultural and religious diversity in the world around them. The collection includes books, periodicals, video recordings, curriculum materials, and other resources on tolerance and diversity, teaching the Holocaust, and Native American issues. The Center sponsors programs and exhibits for educators and the general public.
