Update On Recent Campus Events

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio—19 December 2005-- The safety and protection of Notre Dame College students is our utmost concern, and we will continue to take every step possible to ensure the safety of everyone. The College is always looking for ways of improving all aspects of campus life, and especially in light of the events which occurred on our campus this fall, we are reviewing our internal policies, procedures, protocols and personnel.

The police investigation is progressing and we are cooperating fully with the investigation. As all parties involved are students, we hope you will respect the confidentiality by which the College is bound.

In the meantime, the College will continue to be proactive in educating students about safety in personal relationships. Additionally, the College’s Counseling Center is available to any students who choose to take advantage of this confidential service.

Our First Year Institute program, required for all freshmen, addresses relationship issues that trouble young adults, including sexual assault and prevention. “Sexual Assault Awareness Week,” which includes topics such as safety, violence-prevention and alcohol, had already been scheduled for spring semester prior to the incidents under investigation. In addition, Notre Dame College is one of the few institutions of higher education with its own Rape Aggression Defense System (RADS), used in self-defense workshops available to all students. This two-year old program is offered on campus annually and will be expanded to once each semester.
