Notre Dame College Introduces BSN Program

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio—18 December 2006—Notre Dame College (NDC) is launching its pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program with classes beginning in August. This program was recently approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing (OBN) and joins NDC’s existing RN to BSN program for registered nurses. Notre Dame also offers an Associate in Health Sciences degree conducted in partnership with Huron School of Nursing.

According to Dr. Diane Jedlicka, chair of the Nursing Division, “Notre Dame College is excited to offer these nursing options to help meet the nursing workforce shortage and support the College’s mission to train women and men for personal, professional and global responsibility. The BSN program will provide service opportunities in the community and prepare graduates to practice in a rapidly changing health care environment. Additionally, international educational opportunities will be integrated into the program to empower students to participate in global initiatives and to provide culturally sensitive care.”

In 2004 The Northeast Ohio Nursing Initiative (NEONI) released its report, Measuring Student Capacity and Faculty Resources in Northeast Ohio Schools of Nursing, which documented the shortage of spaces available to for qualified students in nursing programs in Northeast Ohio. The report also reviewed current and future projections for the number of nurses needed in Northeast Ohio which indicate that the current nursing workforce is aging, and a serious shortage is predicted for the years 2010-2020 and beyond. NDC’s program will help meet the demand for additional nursing professionals.
