Notre Dame College Hosts Intelligence Analysis Colloquium

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio—29 June 2007—Notre Dame College (NDC) will host the Ninth International Colloquium on Intelligence July 9 -12 on its South Euclid Campus. The colloquium is presented by the Great Lakes Regional Chapter of the International Association for Intelligence Education (IAFIE) and NDC. The theme of the colloquium, which is being held in greater Cleveland for the first time, is “Teaching Intelligence: Setting Standards.”

The colloquium will attract professionals in the field of intelligence education who will gather to learn about topics such as “Best Practices or Best Principles? Two Strategies for Developing Intelligence Studies into an Academic Discipline,” presented by Noel Hendrickson of James Madison University; “Does Corporate America Really Want Intelligence? A Voice of Customer Discussion,” presented by Michelle Settecase of Ernst & Young; and “Intelligence Studies in U.S. Civilian Colleges and Universities: Developing Critical Thinkers for a Dangerous World,” presented by William Spracher of the Defense Intelligence Agency, NDIC.

Clare M. Lopez will address “Iran’s Intelligence Capabilities.” Lopez is a strategic policy and intelligence expert with a focus on Middle East, national defense, weapons of mass destruction, and counterterrorism issues. A former CIA officer, senior researcher, and senior intelligence analyst in private industry, she has also served as Executive Director of the Iran Policy Committee, a Washington think tank. Lopez is a graduate of Notre Dame College, where she serves on the Advisory Council of the Intelligence Analysis and Research program and a guest lecturer.

Lt. Commander Michael Goldstein (USNR, ret.) will discuss “Communications Intelligence and Allied Knowledge of the Holocaust: What Did We Know and When Did We Know it?” Other topics of interest include: “Setting Standards: Why Bother?” presented by Dr. David Gray of the University of Denver and “Futures Thinking and Curriculum Planning” presented by representatives of the Proteus Management Group.

In 2004 Notre Dame College became the first college in Ohio to offer courses an applied multi-disciplinary program in Intelligence Analysis and Research (IARP). Degree-seekers can study intelligence analysis as an emphasis in NDC’s history/political science program. The College’s Center for Professional Development offers a certificate in both IARP and Competitive Intelligence (for business application) for degree-holders.

Notre Dame College’s intelligence analysis program is taught by professionals currently employed in federal agencies and the private sector.
