Liturgical Vestments the
Focus of Eastern Church Program
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio-5 April 2005-Notre Dame College’s Eastern Church Resource Center presents its sixth anniversary lecture, “Liturgical Vesture,” presented by Rev. Michael Jude Wytish, a Byzantine priest from Uniontown, Pennsylvania. The talk takes place at the College’s Clara Fritzsche Library Sunday, April 17 at 3:00 p.m.
Fr. Wytish has been working in the field of ecclesiastical vesture for more than twenty years, beginning with his days in college seminary. An ardent student of liturgy, he realized that Byzantine worship is “intended to draw one into the heavenly realm not only through the magnificent adornment of the church, but also through the adornment of the clergy.” According to Wytish, “Everything one sees and experiences in the Byzantine church is to be a reflection of the divine realm.”
Fr. Wytish has sewn vestments for bishops, priests, deacons and servers as well as altar coverings since 1981. He dedicates his time to this important area of church life. Samples of his work can be found in collections of parishes and priests in North America, England, Australia, Slovakia, Russia and Ukraine.
Fr. Wytish was born in Philadelphia. He is a graduate of Holy Family University in Philadelphia and Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
The lecture is free and open to the public. Notre Dame College is located at 4545 College Road in South Euclid. For additional information contact Sr. Mary Ann Baran at 216.373.5389 or mbaran@ndc.edu
