Notre Dame College Offers Business Leadership, Small Business Professional Development

Notre Dame College is teaming with the Council of Smaller Enterprises (COSE) Expert Network to provide professional development courses in business leadership and sessions for small business owners and employees.

Three Business Leadership Sessions are offered on Saturdays from 8:30-11:30 a.m. March 11, March 18 and April 8, all at the College. Topics are Learning Leadership, Creating a Culture of Excellence and Creating Win-Win Situations, respectively.

The three Small Business Sessions on Tuesdays are from 6:30-9:30 p.m. March 14, March 21 and March 28 at the College. These classes cover Computer/Network Maintenance and Security, Developing an Onboarding Process and Conducting Crucial and Difficult Conversations, respectively.

Each of the sessions in both programs also is available as an individual professional development class. The courses are available through Notre Dame’s Finn Center for Adult, Graduate and Professional Programs.

COSE Expert Network professionals featured as guest presenters in the certificate program are Roxanne Kaufman Elliott, a i3(r) Leadership Master with multiple executive education certifications from the American Marketing Association; and Tameka L. Taylor, Ph.D., a Certified Diversity Executive who also is licensed by the American Medical Association as a Communication Climate Assessment Toolkit (C-CAT) vendor-consultant. 

Elliott will conduct the Learning Leadership session, and Taylor will lead Creating a Culture of Excellence and Creating Win-Win Situations. 

A third COSE expert, Phil Stella, who works with the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Initiative, also has been involved.

About Roxanne Kaufman Elliott

Elliott is president of ProLaureate Ltd, a leadership development firm dedicated to helping individuals and companies achieve extraordinary levels of achievement and success. Her clients range from privately held businesses to global corporations in the manufacturing, healthcare, insurance, financial services, real estate, consumer products and construction industries, among others.

Her credentials include i3(r) Leadership Master and multiple executive education certifications from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and the American Marketing Association.

In addition to her work with COSE, she is a board member of the Greater Cleveland Partnership; Chair of Leadership Lorain County; Board member of Woman of Power Conference.

She also has served as a business coach in Case Western Reserve University’s entrepreneurial program within the Weatherhead School of Management and as an executive coach in the YWCA Women’s Momentum.

About Tameka L. Taylor, Ph.D.

Taylor is a partner and consultant of Compass Consulting Services LLC, an organizational development firm. She has nearly 20 years of experience facilitating discussions on diversity issues for both youth and adults in all sectors. 

She has worked with The Diversity Center, formerly the National Conference of Christians and Jews, which is a member of National Federation for Just Communities.

Taylor is a Certified Diversity Executive and has been licensed by the American Medical Association as a Communication Climate Assessment Toolkit (C-CAT) vendor-consultant. She also is certified as an executive coach through Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management.

A participant in the 2013 Equal Employment Opportunity Academy for the State of Ohio, Taylor has served on an ad-hoc committee for the Greater Cleveland Partnership Diversity Professionals Group for the Commission on Economic Inclusion and is a graduate of the Cleveland Leadership Center Leadership Cleveland program.

Her awards and honors include: Kaleidoscope Magazine Forty/Forty Club Inductee, The Presidents’ Council Foundation John Bustamante Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Women of Distinction Award from Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio, Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority Community Partner Award and the Consortium of African American Organizations Good Works Award.

About Phil Stella

Stella runs Effective Training & Communication Inc., serving clients as a workplace communication and presentation consultant, trainer and executive coach.

Prior to starting ETC, he managed employee communications and management training functions at Progressive Insurance.

He is on the faculty of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Initiative provides access to education, capital and support to help entrepreneurs. The initiative has aided 3,500 small business owners over the span of 30 months. Studies show these owners outpace national averages for job creation and revenue increases.

He has written more than 400 articles appearing in local and national business, industry and association print and electronic publications.
