M. Joan McCarthy

Notre Dame College awarded one of its highest honors, the 2012 Fidelia Award, to trustee M. Joan McCarthy. In recognition of her service to Notre Dame, McCarthy received the award during a dinner in the College’s Great Room on Sept. 20.

Notre Dame College’s Center for Pastoral Theology and Ministry will present the 28th annual Eleanor Malburg Eastern Churches Seminar, titled “Sacred Space: Speaking to the Heart,” on Oct. 12 and 13. The seminar will reflect on churches as sacred spaces.


The past few months were a busy time in Notre Dame’s Admissions Office. The admissions staff sifted through more than 4,300 undergraduate applications by students interested in joining NDC this fall. In the end, 503 of them made the cut.

Salvatore Caroniti

Notre Dame College nursing student Salvatore Caroniti has been honored by the Cleveland Clinic with the institution’s annual Caregiver Honors Award. Caroniti was one of two employees to earn the award for delivering outstanding care and service.

Falcon Athletics

Notre Dame will join 11 universities and colleges in West Virginia, Ohio and Virginia in the formation of a new all-sports collegiate athletic conference to be named the Mountain East Conference. The MEC intends to begin competition in 2013-14.

Notre Dame junior Chris Via recently returned from Bangkok, Thailand, with gold and silver medals. The Falcon bowler won the World Tenpin Bowling Association World Youth Championships with Junior Team USA and came in second individually.


Building on its historic strength in the sciences, Notre Dame College’s Bachelor of Science in Biology has been named a Choose Ohio First STEMM Program of Innovation and been awarded $60,000 a year to fund scholarships.


Notre Dame College has been approved for full-fledged Division II status in the NCAA. Most of NDC’s 22 athletic programs will compete as independents in 2012-13. Falcon football, soccer, wrestling and women’s lacrosse will compete in the GLIAC.


Notre Dame College will add women’s and men’s rugby as intercollegiate club team sports. The first group of rugby enthusiasts will enroll this fall and be ready for competition during the 2012/13 academic year. Scholarships are available.

College Hires VP for Academic, Student Affairs

Notre Dame College has selected Dr. Nicholas R. Santilli as its next vice president for academic and student affairs. Dr. Santilli is coming to Notre Dame from John Carroll University. He will assume his responsibilities on July 15.
