Announcements

The first day of classes is approaching fast, and students residing on campus this fall semester are probably starting to think about how to furnish the dorm rooms they will call home for next few months. For those eager to express their sense of interior design, the Notre Dame College Office of Residence Life now offers an interactive cool that lets incoming students layout their rooms.

Notre Dame College’s Clara Fritzsche Library will host “The Art of the Batik,” an exhibit of works by local artist Mary Brigid from Sept. 16 through Oct. 29. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, Sept. 16 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Notre Dame College will once again offer an English as a Second Language course this fall. The class will meet in the College’s Administration Building from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Aug. 30 to Dec. 10.

Notre Dame College’s Abrahamic Center and the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage co-sponsored an interfaith Volunteer Opportunities Day at the museum on July 18. About 40 people attended and many signed up to donate their time to one of the seven faith-based social service organizations represented at the event.

Notre Dame College students, employees and visitors will soon be able to enjoy a smooth, resurfaced parking lot. The main lot in front of the Administration Building will be resurfaced from Tuesday, Aug. 10, through Thursday, Aug. 12.

Notre Dame College will be conducting a training drill simulating a bomb and explosive threat to the College and surrounding neighborhoods on Thursday, Aug. 12, beginning at 9 a.m. During the course of the drill, there will be members of bomb squads, bomb-sniffing K-9 teams, and various other public safety vehicles on and around the campus.

Service is an essential part of Notre Dame College's mission and students are encouraged to live that mission as soon as they step onto campus. On Saturday, Aug. 28, all first-year students at NDC will therefore participate in a community food collection benefitting the Heights Emergency Food Center.

Notre Dame College Athletic Director Sue Hlavacek has been named the 2009-10 NAIA Northeast Region Athletic Director of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), and has also earned the Administrator of the Year Award from the National Association of Collegiate Women’s Athletic Administrators (NACWAA).

Notre Dame Associate Professor of Art Rachel Morris will travel to Israel in July to attend a three-week seminar on the Holocaust at Jerusalem’s Yad Vashem, the most comprehensive center of Holocaust commemoration in the world.

All students interested in trying out for the Notre Dame College football cheerleading squad must attend tryouts on Saturday, July 24, at 10 a.m. in the Performing Arts Center located on the lower level of the Administration Building. For more information on tryout requirements or general program questions, please contact the coaching staff at cheerleading@ndc.edu and visit our cheerleading Web page.
