Theatre Department Launches Program for Young Audiences

Notre Dame College’s Theatre Department has launched “NDSeePlays,” a new program that caters to young audiences. The productions kick off with a free collection of children’s plays titled “Young at Heart” in the Performing Arts Center on Friday, April 20.

“Young at Heart” features four performances of “Cinderella Wore Combat Boots,” a quirky spin on the Cinderella tale by Jerry Chase, as well as five short plays written by students in Notre Dame’s event/play production class. The student plays are titled “Oblivious Olivia,” “Dolls Don’t Lie,” “Eyes of Love,” “Crane Repaying Kindness” and “Zodiac Rat.”

“The students really stepped up to the challenge of writing, producing, promoting, acting, directing, stage managing and designing original plays,” said Jacqi Loewy, director of theatre at Notre Dame College. “The plays will delight children from the ages of 5 to 10 and will still be entertaining for anyone older who is a kid at heart. We are thrilled to be able to offer four performances free of charge. We hope the local community will come out to play with us.”

“Young at Heart” opens in the Performing Arts Center at noon on Friday, April 20. Other performances are on Saturday, April 21, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 22, at 2 p.m. Admission is free.

Notre Dame College is located at 4545 College Road in South Euclid. The Performing Arts Center is located on the ground floor of the Administration Building. For further information contact Jacqi Loewy, director of theatre, at jloewy@ndc.edu or 216.373.5189.
