Summer Theatre Brings Shakespeare, The Fantasticks to Notre Dame

STAND! The first season of Summer Theatre At Notre Dame presenting the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival and “The Fantasticks” will kick off on the front steps of the College’s Administration Building on Friday, June 18.

The Shakespeare Festival is in its 11th summer of bringing quality, free Shakespeare performances to outdoor venues. On June 18 and 19, it will perform “Titus Andronicus” directed by Allan Byrne in front of Notre Dame’s Gothic-style Administration Building. A week later, on June 25 and 26, it will present “The Merry Wives of Windsor” directed by Tyson Rand. All performances begin at 7 p.m. Visitors are invited to bring lawn chairs and a picnic. In case of rain, the plays will move to the Performing Arts Center.

In July, the Performing Arts Center will host “The Fantasticks,” a presentation by That Summer Thing Productions. The musical, directed by Elizabeth Presley, will feature NDC students, alumni, faculty and community performers. All performances on July 9, 10, 16 and 17 begin at 7 p.m.

Assistant Professor of Communication and Theatre Jacqi Loewy is thrilled to bring summer theatre to the campus. “It’s a perfect time to initiate a summer theatre in South Euclid,” she said. “The marriage of Notre Dame’s beautiful campus with these two theatre companies is very exciting. I hope everyone will join us in welcoming these quality shows right here in our own backyards.”

Notre Dame College is located at 4545 College Road in South Euclid. For further information contact Brian Johnston, chief communications officer, at 216.373.5252 or bjohnston@ndc.edu
