Notre Dame College Offers Online Master of Science in Nursing Degree

Notre Dame College has launched an online Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) program, with the first cohort of students starting classes this fall.

The new M.S.N. graduate degree is a 36 credit-hour program designed for new and practicing B.S.N. nurses who are looking to advance their careers by becoming leaders in direct care, as well as by training to be nurse educators.

The accelerated courses are taught by full-time, expert faculty and delivered online for the convenience of at-home, self-directed study.

The degree is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

“This Master of Science in Nursing program intends to deepen a student’s understanding of person, environment, health and nursing, as well as prepare practicing and new nurses to be successful in the roles of both educator and leader within the nursing profession, the community and the health care system,” said Mary Ann Schneider, Ph.D., dean of The Finn Center for Adult, Graduate and Professional Programs at the College.

The M.S.N. coursework covers advanced assessment, pharmacology and pathophysiology as part of the newly expanded and industry demanded direct care role of the nurse educator as outlined by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). Students will learn theory, research, leadership, health care policy and nursing education methods. Classes include a capstone project and practicum experience.

In addition to the national need for nurses in general, the AACN reports a major shortage of those with more advanced levels of knowledge and experience who can serve as nurse educators.
