Notre Dame College to Host Musical Tribute to Broadway Star Ethel Merman

Notre Dame College will host the exclusive showing of The Musical Theater Project’s “Loud but Honest: The Impact of Ethel Merman” at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13, in its Regina Auditorium.

The concert tribute to the Broadway performer known for introducing a new kind of woman on Broadway─the brassy dame─will include songs that showcase her trademark belt, including “I Get A Kick Out Of You,” “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” and “There’s No Business Like Show Business.”

The multimedia presentation will include dozens of still images and rare film clips of Merman as well as two female vocalists: one representing the 21-year-old Merman who started on Broadway singing George and Ira Gershwin’s “I Got Rhythm” and then starred in “Annie Get Your Gun” 16 years later and the second evoking a more mature Merman who, at age 51, premiered Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim’s “Gypsy.”

The concert is co-hosted by The Musical Theater Project’s Artistic Director Bill Rudman and Music Director Nancy Maier.

Tickets are $26 and $18 and can be ordered through The Musical Theater Project’s box office at 216.245. 8687 or online at MusicalTheaterProject.org.
