Of all his musicals, composer Richard Rodgers considered Carousel his favorite. He’s not alone: the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein masterwork is one of the most beloved shows ever produced on Broadway. “The Making of Carousel” will tell the story of its creation and feature in-concert performance of the musical’s songs.

The multimedia performance is co-hosted by The Musical Theater Project’s co-director Bill Rudman and music director Nancy Maier, and features six vocalists: Jessica Cope, James Dickason, Clare Howes Isentrout, Jared Leal, Cynthia O’Connell and Fabio Polanco. The Notre Dame College Choir—under the direction of Sister Mary Karita Ivancic—rounds out the chorus.

The concert will showcase every song from the score, including “If I Loved You,” “Mr. Snow,” “Soliloquy,” “June Is Bustin’ Out All Over” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” along with the glorious “Carousel Waltz.”

Carousel is what musical theater artists call a ‘Big Sing,’” says Rudman. “It is a show brimming over with solos, duets and choral numbers. We can’t wait to share its story—and its artistry—with our audience.” Maier agrees, noting that “it’s a profoundly moving piece, distinguished by Rodgers and Hammerstein’s values and sense of humanity.”

The concert is produced by The Musical Theater Project in partnership with Notre Dame College as part of its annual “The Song Is You!” concert and cabaret series. For tickets to the concert, call The Musical Theater Project at 216-245-TMTP (8687) or visit www.MusicalTheaterProject.org.
