Considerations to be forwarded to the Institutional Policy and Planning Committee:
Board development should continue to include more opportunities for interaction between directors and College faculty to establish greater appreciation for and understanding of the teaching and learning process at Notre Dame College.
Board committees need to establish and follow a routine meeting schedule.
Academic freedom is referenced in the Faculty Personnel Policies Manual, Volume IV. It is recommended that the Academic and Student Affairs Committee spend time with faculty with respect to academic freedom and its relationship to expected faculty rights and privileges.
Include Board members on the distribution list of the electronic newsletters and announcements that are sent to faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
While professional development opportunities are improving, more incentives such as raises or bonuses should be provided.
More consideration for sabbaticals should be given for faculty. Need to value the benefits of education for faculty and staff who continually keep up-to-date. For staff, revise the policy regarding time off or schedule adjustment to allow for attending classes.
Continue to increase funding for professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
Create a structured professional development plan for staff that mirrors the design of FADC.
Better orientation and training needed for all new staff and faculty.
Technology training is sorely missing for staff members (especially CARS training).
Build in professional development days into the calendar for faculty and staff.
Establish a site where professional development opportunities are listed.
Utilize talents and skills of faculty and staff to provide on-campus professional development. Pool internal resources.
Utilize the talents, skills, and diversity of Board members to provide professional development.
Utilize Board members’ expertise and talents as guest speakers in the classroom.
While scholarly activities of students and faculty are listed on the College’s intranet, more attention should be noted on the College’s website so that visitors to the site would be made aware of achievements.
Along these lines, create a community service web page promoting students and their achievements.
