College Holds First Ever
Sukkot Celebration

The Jewish holiday of Sukkot, the Feast
of Booths, was celebrated at Notre Dame
College from October 9 through 13. The
event was sponsored by the College’s
Department of Theology and Campus
Ministry and coordinated by graduate
student Ruth Tamkin as part of Notre
Dame’s continuing efforts to foster
interfaith understanding .
As part of the celebration, a Sukkah
structure was constructed and activities
were scheduled to introduce the customs
of the holiday to the College community.

Center hosted Rick Lavoie, an
internationally
recognized expert
in the field of
learning differences,
for a seminar titled
“Mastering the
Hidden Curriculum”
in October.
Over 90
educators and
parents attended
the seminar. |
Rock For Tots
The College’s
Student
Government
sponsored a
benefit concert
in connection
with Notre
Dame serving
as a collection
point for Toys
for Tots, the
U.S. Marine
Corps Reserve’s
annual toy collection campaign. The show held in
Notre Dame’s Performing Arts Center in
December, featured three local musical
acts, included a performance by Biology
Professor Tony LaVerde. Those in
attendance were encouraged to bring a
toy to contribute to the toy drive.

Men’s Basketball Visits
St. Felicitas Elementary

In December, the Notre Dame College
men’s basketball program visited the
second grade classrooms of St. Felicitas
Elementary School in Euclid, Ohio as
part of the National Association of
Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)
“Champions of Character” program.
“Champions of Character” is
designed to promote character
development in youth and change the
culture of sport. It is based on five core
values: respect, responsibility, integrity,
servant leadership and sportsmanship. |
College Celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Sr. Juanita Shealey, CSJ was the featured speaker at Notre Dame College’s second annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration in January. Sr. Shealey spoke on “Living a Life of Justice.”
The event brought approximately 60 members of the College and local community together to remember the civil rights leader.
