Letter from Joan McCarthy
This past June, I assumed the position of Chair of Notre Dame College’s Board of Directors. I am truly honored to serve in this role and look forward to helping build on the legacy of this College and the Sisters of Notre Dame.
First and foremost, I would also like to thank my predecessor and colleague, Kathleen B. Burke, for her dynamic leadership as the Chair of the Board over the past four years.
I also wish to extend congratulations to Myron Filarski, Sr. Margaret Harig ’56, Sr. Kathleen Ryan, and Margaret Wong as they were reappointed to three year terms with the Board of Directors. They are joined by Dominic Ozanne, our newest director. Dominic is the president and CEO of Ozanne Construction, one of the most established construction companies in Northeast Ohio. He is a graduate of Boston University and earned his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School.
It is my pleasure to congratulate Barbara Herzog Patterson ’56, this year’s Fidelia Award recipient. Barbara joined the Board in 1991 and has truly demonstrated fidelity and loyalty to her alma mater. Upon her acceptance of the award, Barbara became a Life Member of the Board of Directors.
With the 2006-2007 academic year underway, it is exciting to see Notre Dame College growing and thriving under the capable leadership of President Andrew Roth. This year, the College is moving forward with academic initiatives that include the introduction of on-line courses which will supplement the course offerings of the successful Teacher Education Evening Licensure program. Also new this year is the RN to BSN program in which registered nurses can complete the coursework necessary for their bachelor’s degree. These programs, along with the introduction of men’s wrestling and women’s swimming and diving, have helped spur our enrollment to record levels for the third consecutive year.
Thank you for your support of Notre Dame College during the last fiscal year. As the College grows, the importance of your giving grows as well. Please join me in supporting Notre Dame in the coming years, fulfilling the mission of the College by preparing students for personal, professional and global responsibility.
Sincerely,
M. Joan McCarthy
